Earlier this year I got a call from my long time friend and hunting buddy (Ken), about MAHA, asking me if I wanted to join. I really didn't get excited about all the wonderful things he was telling me about Mid-West whitetail hunting. Having missed a planned hunt the previous year with Ken, he guilted me into joining. "Best money I've ever spent!!"
We did the best job we could scouting Iowa without being there. We employed every resource at our disposal. Finally it was time to go. I packed two bags, Ken packed a UHAL.
Upon arriving in [location deleted], at 3 am, we quickly unpacked, and went looking for deer. By the time we got back to the motel, I was excited!
The hunting was slow, as compared to accounts of previous years, but we pressed on. I was just glad to be in such a great piece of country, not having to deal with the hustle and bustle of metro Atlanta. We met some great people, and saw a few nice deer. I was most pleased to see that everyone in the club was a serious hunter. Your interview process is the KEY to that. I was able to see first hand the type of deer Iowa can produce, when our boys from Arkansas rolled in with that huge 170/180. I believe you have a picture posted of that deer. My pictures didn't do that deer justice.
I was fortunate to pull out this 145 the day after. Ken saw several deer but wasn't able to pull one out. We'll be back next year to get his.
