DATE 12/14/97 HEADLINE Outdoors report BYLINE BRENT FRAZEE The Kansas City Star
Dream season Randy Carpenter of Olathe will never have another deer season like this one. Hunting in northeast Kansas on Dec. 3, opening day of the state's firearms deer season, he took a big 12-point buck on land leased by the Mid-America Hunting Association. That would have been impressive enough. But this was the third trophy buck Carpenter had taken this season. He shot two other 10-pointers, both big enough to qualify for the national Pope and Young Club recognition, during the archery season. One deer was taken in Kansas, the other in Missouri. "My friends say I must carry a golden horseshoe along with me,' he said. "This is the best year I've ever had."
