Hi John,
I am finally getting around to sending you some pictures of our [location deleted] deer hunt. We were hunting one of the point restricted counties and I am seeing real results from that program in its second year. I had some apprehension about hunting with Ian, who is now 9 years old in a point restricted area. In 4 days of hunting we saw 6 buck and all of them had 8 points or more except for one 6 pointer. We also had a very relaxing hunt with no trespassing which pleased me greatly. I shot a three year old 8 pointer at 11:00 on the first day. We watched the buck come out of some standing corn and bed down at 10:00. For an hour I watched the bucks rack and tried to get Ian to see him but he just couldn’t pick it out 150 yards away. When he stood up I could see the middle of his neck through a hole in the trees and brush and was able to get a bullet in him. It took us a while to find him because he was much further away than I thought, but
Ian found him right in his bed.
Ian had some close calls over the next couple of days and finally connected at 10:00 on Tuesday in a cold rain storm. We went and got help to drag out his 8 pointer and by the time we returned the ground was white with snow.
We are looking forward to next year. We saw some real nice bucks and I think next year could be better than anything we have seen.
Thanks again for all of the hard work and happy holidays to everyone.
Kevin
