Greetings MAHA Staff I did manage to get a shot at a nice 10 point in [location deleted] county, however the animal moved forward just as I let it go and hit him back and regretfully did not recover the animal. I had two close calls with a nice 10 pt in [location deleted] county but could not get a shot at him. I did manage to take a turkey, a nice tom with a 12" beard. My gun trip was just as eventful, on opening day I saw 22 deer, of which 9 were bucks and two were shooters. The cover which I was hunting did not give me a good clean shot and I opted to pass, hoping to get a good clean kill opportunity later. As it turned out, I saw 4 shooters for the weekend, and all 4 are still walking. Before I joined the club, we had been hunting in Wisconsin near the famed Buffalo county region for the past five years. I saw more trophy class animals in one season in Missouri than I did in all five years up there. I think the club has properties as good as anyone could ask for in the entire United States. Keep up the good work in securing first class properties. In closing,
I am more than satisfied with my trip to Missouri, even with an
empty pick up bed on the way home. I wish all members good luck in
their hunting adventures, where ever they may be. Jon, John, and Shaun, Here is an account of my [locations deleted] gun hunts, so here we go.
The next day I went back to the same spot to try to fill my doe tag, it was kind of slow all day until early afternoon a coyote wondered into my area and was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I decided to forgo my chances at a doe and take him out of the predator pool. The shot well placed and my hunt was over, I packed up well before dark and went back to the camper, regrouped for the trip to [location deleted] in the morning. Friday morning I headed to [location deleted], where I scored on a beautiful 150 class buck last year. I was fortunate enough to draw the same area and secured the same section again this year, man, I couldn't wait! I got the camper set up Friday afternoon, reorganized all my gear and hit the sack. I must have tossed and turned all night in anticipation for the morning. It was like the kids on Christmas eve awaiting the excitement for the morning, I could hardly sleep, dreaming of another monster. When morning arrived, I walked from the camper to the field, to the same tree as last year, took my climber off my back and proceeded to set up. It was a crisp, clear, cool morning with a gentle breeze very similar to the [location deleted] opener. After getting all set up, I looked upward to the star filled heavens and asked the Lord for his blessings today on my hunt. Here is how my morning went. I don't hear well
so I have to keep scanning the area for movement. I hadn't been
there 15 minutes when I looked over my left shoulder and couldn't
believe what was coming in fast. It was another bruiser with plenty
of rack that I didn't have to look twice. He was closing from 30 yds
straight downwind and coming directly at me. I grabbed my TC Omega,
wheeled back over my left shoulder and brought the crosshairs to the
animal. Anyway, I was going to give him two hours before going to look for him as not to jump him up into the next county. 45 minutes had passed, I also thought another big buck could appear at any time, what would I do? I said to myself, I am not going to do anything stupid, I have to wait to go look for the animal. That thought barely left my mind and the big buck appeared from the brush, he was obviously hit as he staggered into view and laid down some 75 yds out broadside. The smoke flew again and it was over.
Thank You, God bless, and may
all members and staff have a good holiday season. Rex later sent in these mount pictures to better show the rack quality.
Had my best year ever deer hunting thanks to your quality
properties, I can't tell you enough how much fun I had this year.
This sport is getting more expensive each when you kill 3 trophies
and have to mount them. I am forced to take up learning taxidermy to
keep down my expenses. I have 13 on the wall now, and need to expand
my display area in the garage. Enclosed are a couple I got back last
week from last season, I am not paying any more taxidermy bills to
anyone else! Thanks for running a great club, and in a couple of
years I might send in a complete layout of all the trophy bucks
which I have harvested through the club. More about this family of deer hunters 2 3 4 5 6 or on turkey hunts 2 3 4 5 6 |
