via email: John, I have been meaning to put a pen to paper and send a letter
along with a photograph but have been unable to get it done. So I am using
modern technology to send you a quick note and a few photos of the deer I
harvested this fall.
We had been bow
hunting this particular piece of property two weeks prior to gun season when I
saw this buck at a good distance. After the hunt, we relocated a stand and set
it up for rifle season near where the buck was spotted. It worked out great
except I should have brought my bow instead of my rifle. A couple of does walked
directly under my stand at first light. Shortly there after, this buck
came in fast to chase the does...also directly under my stand. I have to admit
that he looked a lot bigger from the stand (especially through a scope) than he
did once I got down on the ground. Perhaps it was the excitement of the hunt and
the short amount of time allotted for judgment. He is still a very nice
buck of which I am very proud. Especially the way we went about hunting the
property this year with hard scouting and aerial photo studies.
I was also able to take one of the does from the same stand shortly after the
buck went down. Not bad... shot and field dressed two deer and headed for the
truck by 8 a.m. When I notified my hunting partner, Shawn, he was real tickled.
He had also had a good morning hunt in that he could not keep track of how many
deer he had seen with his fingers and toes.
I have been to a lot of the properties and have found one thing in
common.....Excellent habitat!!! You guys are doing a great job with
property selection and I commend you on your efforts. Keep up the good work and
I hope that I am able to send more photographs next year.
Thanks, Randy |
