Missouri hunting options beyond that of deer and of Missouri turkey hunting include quail and private wetlands waterfowl hunts.
This section is just a quick overview of Missouri hunter options other than deer hunting. Use the links at left for greater detail on any topic.

A wild Bobwhite Quail hunt is typically not a viable option for the deer hunter as to effectively quail hunt requires a pointing dog. For those few deer hunters that cross the line into pointing dogs they should consider a combination deer and quail hunt. The quail hunts are that good.

The short answer to why quail hunts may be a good choice is the lack of snakes, no cactus and mild winters allows for both covey and singles dog on bird action. Far more details are within our quail hunter section.

Missouri Turkey

Missouri is a good fit for the turkey and deer hunter profile as both are frequently hunted on the same collection of private lease land. It is easy if the hunter concentrates both spring turkey and fall deer within the same area to have two roost and several stand sites targeted to those golden nugget spots that produce the best shot opportunity.

Far more Missouri deer hunters will also be waterfowl than quail hunters. Those duck hunters that hunt our wetlands just once will be guaranteed to return.

Our stable, fixed blinds, shooting pool water depth, surrounding food and large standing water structure on water level controlled wetlands are the best to be found. We enhance existing wetlands ourselves to maximize their duck attracting characteristics. Any duck hunter member that has been with us even for a short while will become a drake only hunter if he was not before within Mid-America Hunting Association.

After the first season most members agree that avoidance of public land hunter mentality well expressed on public wetlands of setting up close, overcalling, late sets and sky busting is well worth the cost of private wetland hunts. That same enjoyment extends to deer hunts where to get on private land an hunt alone doe not requiring hours of knocking on doors.

Missouri Waterfowl

Missouri has our best regional waterfowl hunting for both duck and goose. The Lower Missouri River Bottoms converge the Missouri River, Upper Mississippi and the Ohio River.

This picture says it all.

For the most part the Missouri deer hunter that may want a combination fall turkey, quail or waterfowl hunt can make that happen. What is the more common approach for the Missouri deer hunter is to continue his deer hunting effort as most will Missouri deer hunt each season and that of either Kansas or Iowa as well.

Missouri OTC licensing makes much opportunity avaible to the average self guided hunter.

Another band to add to add to his collection during his short career as a waterfowl hunter, but he definitely puts in the time.
