Dear
John: My
first deer hunt as a member of MAHA was a great time with good results.
I hunted with my Dad and Tom Earl, a member Jon Nee put us in touch
with. Opening
day I stayed in my stand for 12 hours and saw only one doe but I was
fortunate to be able to watch a bobcat for fifteen minutes making the
day worthwhile. Bobcat sightings are rare where we live. The second day
in the same stand I saw four does and a small 8 pointer. I left that
stand at 11 :00 am and in the afternoon I sat in another stand on
another property. This stand was set up in a thick creek bottom that
bottlenecked down to about 75 yards wide. At 5:00 pm I saw a doe being
chased around by an 8 pointer. The buck was not a shooter so I sat
tight. Five minutes later I heard two bucks fighting about 100 yards in
back of me, but I could not see them. After that I heard a deer in front
of me coming towards my stand. This deer stopped and ripped a tree apart
but I could not see him. With five minutes of legal shooting time left
the buck stepped out 75 yards away and I made the shot. I
didn't hunt for a couple of days but then decided to buy a bonus tag and
shot a doe the next morning. Dad and Tom passed up multiple bucks but it
just didn't happen that week. After being home a couple of weeks Tom
called me to tell me he had just shot his second Pope & Young buck
this year. That is a great accomplishment and I couldn't have been
happier for him. Tom and I are already planning a spring turkey hunt and
an archery hunt next year. I
would also like to say that the people in the Mid-West are among the
nicest and most approachable people I have ever had the pleasure to
meet. They are pro-hunting and pro- hunter and that really makes for a
nice hunting environment. Thanks
again for my first season with MAHA and see you next year.
Sincerely, Kevin See what father and son, Ian, accomplished during deer season, on a later deer hunt and spring turkey along with granddad as well what cousin Bob did >>> |
