Ken & Sean from Georgia

On Deer Hunting

Gentlemen

This past year was my fist year in the MAHA. I would like to take a minute and say thank you for all your hard work to make my deer hunting dreams become a reality.
For years, I have wanted to hunt in Kansas and Iowa. Being from Georgia, the only way for me to hunt in the mid-west is on a guided hunt or if I know someone who has a farm and would allow me to hunt. I don't like guided hunts and I don't know anyone in the three states you lease land that would allow me to hunt. The MAHA is perfect for my needs. So again - THANK YOU!

Our Trip -- our 10--day trip started by loading way too much stuff. My philosophy is to be over prepared. After we loaded the U-haul and we drove 14 hours, we were very excited to start what ended up being a hunt of a lifetime.

Before I continue with the rest of our trip, let me quantify what 4 days of hunting in Iowa allowed us to accomplish. Sean and I have approximately 40 years of serious, hard-core GEORGIA deer hunting between us. We accomplished more in 4 days of bow hunting in Iowa than 40 years of bow and gun hunting in Georgia. THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to the trip - Since we. Were not able to pre-season scout, our first few days were spent getting acclimated with the environment, hanging stands and scouting.
By Tuesday evening, I saw a few nice bucks while Sean wasn't having as much luck. Tuesday evening, I had all estimated 140 inch 8-pointer skirt around my stand about 50 yards leaving me only with a vivid memory of the situation. Being a team, I wanted both Sean and I to have a quality experience so I asked if he would like to sit where l saw the l40 is pointer? He accepted and sat there the next morning, He passed on 4 different 8 pointers that morning; then scouted a little deeper and found his honey hole for that afternoon's hunt.

After settling in for that afternoon's hunt and while pulling up his bow, A 120 inch 10 pointer passed underneath his stand. A few hours later, he experienced something very few hunters will ever be able to see. He witnessed an estimated 150 inch tear up a 180 inch buck After watching this and passing on several smaller bucks, his opportunity came on the same 140 inch 8 pointer I sent him over there to possibly harvest. After shooting the deer and not knowing where the shot hit the buck we tracked the deer for 100 yards and decided Sean will come back in the AM to track while l hunted. To my surprise the next morning was full of celebration when I walked up to the truck and saw the 142 3/8 inch monster.

My trip ended on Saturday morning with out a shot. I hunted. Hard and was proud of every minute of this trip of a lifetime and VERY excited (good lord wining) to do it again next year!

Again, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK TO MAKE THIS HUNT POSSIBLE!

Ken
