Deer Hunter Feedback

To Maha Staff,
Thanks so much for a great job in securing and administrating such absolutely wonderful hunting properties.

First, let me say that I read many of the testimonials of successful and not successful hunts before joining Maha. Although skeptical as many others most likely were, this associations lands speak for themselves. Not having a chance to come out from my home near New Orleans, due to work commitments, to turkey hunt, I did find the time to do some effective scouting during the summer months, which really helped out in locating many potential hotspots for my first Maha deer hunt in [location deleted]. Following the advice given me by staff, I applied for and received a [location deleted], allowing me to hunt for the first time ever in [location deleted]. I was not disappointed, as on the second day of my hunt, Sept. 16, I took my best deer to date, a 13 point, rough scoring in the mid 130's, after seeing several smaller bucks that day, in [location deleted], just a few miles south of the [location deleted], which is one of the properties suggested to me by John. "Thank You very much." While there, I had a chance to look at several other farms that look great for future hunts. All of the farms that I scouted, both recommended by John and those that I selected, were loaded with deer sign....This was just a great hunting experience, where I saw more antlered deer, 8 in one hunt, than I have seen in the last several years hunting at home. Leaving [location deleted], I headed to [location deleted] for some archery hunting before going home. Although not having a shot at the buck I was looking for, I spent several days on some great hunting land, seeing many deer each day. In one case, I had a one horned buck"4 point" follow me adjacent to a corn field for close to 1/4 mile before he decided to go on about his business. All said, we as members of this association are blessed with great Mid West hunting land, due to the diligence of the Maha staff and Mother Nature. Lets all do our part to keep it that way. You have my commitment!!! looking forward to my next trip in November, Sincerely. [name deleted] If you wish you can print my name and phone #[number deleted] as I will be glad to refer anyone to this great association. I am looking forward to many years as a member and if there is anything I can do to assist in furthering your goals to continue to make this a great place to enjoy the outdoors for our members, please let me know.

No big surprises about Kansas firearms deer hunting is for the modern rifle deer hunter. With a combination of open and closed in terrain the rifle deer hunter will find Kansas provides both short and long range shooting.

That deer hunting choice in Kansas is that more of Kansas becomes available to the deer hunter as there are large areas where the lack of trees will make bow deer hunting a very tough prospect. Essentially, the firearms deer hunter has all of our Kansas deer hunting leases to pick from where to hunt while the bow deer hunter will be recommended to more limited in scope specific closed in wooded terrain.

For those that do rifle deer hunt they have choices. The rifle hunter with a good variable scope has the watershed country of wooded creek bottoms cutting through crop fields connecting small wood patches where ranges down to 10 yards are likely. The same deer hunter may travel to other regions where not more than one tree stand is part of the equipment packing list. More valuable will be a good pair of walking boots and development of patients to glass before moving more than several feet. In this Kansas open country being able to judge range and shoot long are valued skills.

Kansas with its rifle deer season offset with that of Missouri and overlapping that of Iowa does require planning on draw tag success potential based on acquired non-draw year preference points. In this regard there are three basic approaches.

The easy approach is to apply for both Kansas and Iowa firearms deer tags each year and simply hunt where successfully drawn. The next approach is to manipulate preference points through purchase of the points rather than compete for the actual deer tags. The final approach is to apply to either Kansas or Iowa as a deer hunting state of preference and then plan to deer hunt Missouri with their OTC tags.

For the first year Kansas rifle deer hunter the choice is not hard. Enjoy the added adventure of getting away from the deer stand and walk up deer in the big open, or enjoy a combination of stand and still deer hunting. And, before coming to that decision give us a call. We do act as the friendly point of contact reference Kansas deer hunting for those that have never been. For those with past Kansas deer hunts under their belt they will find we make the deer hunts better through our self guided private lease land deer hunts.
