Some pictures and account to consider given to us by a bird hunter hunting what
anyone would probably consider a bird lease.
There were seven doe (five in the picture) alternating watching us and feeding on a wheat field while we crossed a grass area pheasant hunting. We later jumped a buck of reasonable size from he trees (ruins of a homestead) at the left far ground.
Not until one of the dogs move forward to the far edge of the grass did the deer care about leaving. The picture shows the deer farther out than they actually were. Had we been back home they would have been in easy shotgun slug range.
Other deer sign included this licking branch and the rub seen in the background.
#1 is where the deer feeding in the wheat field were photographed. #2 is where the buck was bedded. #3 the rub and licking branch. The southeast corner of the farm is in tall grass CRP. The creek bottom split into two pastures. The northeast 1/4 and the extreme northwest fields in wheat. The pond showing in the aerial was dry. |
