Hunting Natural Habitat Boone and Crockett Whitetail Deer

Boone and Crockett Club deer exist in the central mid-west in greater quantities compared to most other places. Many have seen them during deer scouting. Seeing a Boone and Crockett quality deer vice putting it in the back of the truck is as we all know the hardest part. For the MAHA staff, a lot of bird hunters as well as many deer hunters they have seen trophy deer that would easily exceed the B & C minimum scoring as well as a few that would end anyone's deer hunting career in terms of ever being able to top it. This has started a dynamic in MAHA that impacts overall hunter success rates.

For many in the Association they have harvested what they deem as their share of 140+ trophies, while always hoping for a B & C trophy. They are always in search of that exceptional rare animal that will score in the B&C record book and know they will probably settle for less. The impact has been than many of these hunters will pass on the smaller scoring bucks that many others would harvest, waiting for a shot at the few high end trophies they have scouted, seen in the past or simply know are in the area.

A True B&C Whitetail

trophy whitetail deer huntingThis trophy deer is typical of areas that are overlooked from the road. Bill is a member that patrols Association leases that has received reports of trespassing. As you can see at 6', 2'' with about 250 pounds Bill is capable of any necessary action. It is Bill's body size that makes this rack look less than a B & C.

While on patrol in the middle of the day, midweek of the firearms season, Bill was watching an open field when a doe pulled this B&C trophy across to pose for a 120 yard broadside shot. It was a small 80 acre farm with one small timbered ditch running through the middle of a corn field. The small draw was fed by large timbered adjoining the property to the south. The farm to the north was large open pasture with ditches. The draws appeared more suitable for quail. Bill's buck officially gross scored 179 3/8ths, net scored 172 which made it an official B&C trophy.

What are the odds any hunter will have at a chance to harvest such a buck? Not likely as they are the rarest form of whitetail. Those that do will have a memory that will last a lifetime and it most likely will be the only one of that lifetime. We offer only natural, 100% wild deer hunting on existing habitat. No fences or specially fed deer to grow large racks within a fence and show on schedule at the feeder. We offer real hunting for the real hunter. The reality is the opportunity at many lesser trophies that would make anyone proud.
