Greg S., on Mule and Whitetail Deer hunting

Recent Season

All at MAHA,

Thanks a bunch for the great service and great hunting opportunities. It has been a good year, my brother [name delted] joined the club and we were able to hunt together a couple of times. Between the two of us we got seven turkeys, a 12 point whitetail and a 5x5 Mule Deer! Pretty good for a couple of Arkansas boys.

Jon & John thanks for the tips on Mule Deer hunting habitat. The September scouting/early muzzleloader hunt trip really paid off in December. Jon thanks for the extra effort to be sure I had plenty of good areas to hunt! I got this 5x5 Mule Deer, 3 pheasants and 4 quail. I also froze my butt off!! I'm not used to five degrees below zero!

Previous Season

Hello to all at MAHA,

I want to give a short report on my fall season. I drew a coveted [location deleted] and  I was able to hunt five days of the season. I saw over 50 deer the first day of the hunt. I saw over a dozen deer every day. I had a great time! If I could shoot even one half as good as I think I can I would be sending pictures of a big buck, but I missed a real easy shot (I won't go into detail). I saw eight bucks over the course of five days that I would consider shooters. But like you guys have said it is easy to lay eyes on a big buck but hard to get it into the truck. On day three I saw a deer that would probably push the Boone & Crocket minimum except the left main beam was broken just above G-1, I let him walk hoping he will be around on my next [location deleted] deer hunt. This was my second season deer hunting with MAHA and so far I have taken a doe each year but no bucks. I have seen the bucks but those big guys don't get like that being easy to kill. When (not if) I finally do connect on a big one I will send plenty of pictures! Oh yes, my doe this year weighed 168 ponds (measured on a scale not estimated) live weight. That is as big as any buck I've taken in Arkansas.

Thank you John Wenzel for help with where to hunt, you were right on the money with your advice.

Thank you for all the hard work ----- Good luck with the turkeys this spring ----- [name deleted]
