Pressure

Of all our whitetail hunts the deer bowhunting seasons are one of the least used seasons of MAHA lease land hunt options in terms of hunter days in the field compared to season length and acreage.

Bow hunters will find that he will have many a lonely day in the tree stand over the course of a long archery season spanning 5 months. Our hunter pressure is reflected in the chart below that shows the number of reservations by state and season.

Kansas and Iowa archery deer hunting is by competitive draw tag and both states have the month of May as their application period. Missouri bow tag is over the counter purchase good for 2 whitetail either sex. Scouting is pre or during the season.

Worst Case

The archery worst case, if that is an accurate description or not, is Missouri. Missouri season days run from September 15 to January 15 in 2004 there was 89,000+ acres for the 143 hunters to share the entire season. If all had hunted the same day, which of course did not happen, each bow hunter had several hundred acres to bow hunt. The best case is the hunter will not even see another person, bow hunter or farmer in the woodlot. Add to that analysis that nearly half of our hunters travel from out of state with most archery deer hunters hunting one week a year and some two separate one week vacation hunts. No hunter will be stepping over boot prints or see other stands when the sun comes up.

The same archery deer hunter may overlap hunts amongst Kansas, Missouri and Iowa.

Mark, a local member for 11 years was forced to look for another archery spot, since his traditional farm had sold. He said he's going to return to his new spot next year.

Every so often we receive a telephone call from prospective membership applicants that seize on information such as the caption at the top of this picture focus on the negatives that a hunter may not always be able to hunt the same spot from year to year. This is true and it reflects reality rather than the ideal some folks unreasonably expect. All must recognize land use will change over the years, landowners die, some retries and sell land and so on. The same for us as it is for any that secure a private land deer lease.

Success

Throughout our archery deer success gallery it will become evident that disciplined archery hunters account for the majority of the largest buck harvested on Association lease land. With the advantage of a long deer season covering the pre, early, peak and post ruts the archery deer hunter has a significant advantage over firearm and muzzleloader deer hunters.

Not only may the Association self guided archery hunter select the phase of the rut he desires to hunt he may also match his preference of deer habitat. And, that same hunter will be able to bow hunt from as many farms as he has time to cover over as many days to deer hunt as he may have.

Archery Tags

Kansas deer tags are by draw for non-residents and over the counter for Kansas residents. Kansas bow tags are to a specific state whitetail unit for non-resident draw tags.

Missouri whitetail tags are over the counter for both residents and non-residents. Missouri tags are state wide.

Iowa nonresident bow deer tags are issued on a draw and to a whitetail management unit. The Association has land in Iowa deer hunting zones 4 and 5.

Difference

The essential comparison between what we offer and all other options that may be found is that we do not offer a guided hunt. With our option the hunter depends on himself with the advantage of the Association providing the private land access.

This leads to lower success rates compared to a ranch hunt that includes feeders, food plots and fences. However, each do it yourself bow hunter successful at harvesting a buck did so by his own method and skill.

Dennis from late season hunting. Dennis has been in the club for 24 years and has a whitetail collection that will rival the best.

MAHA Whitetail

Our approach is putting the habitat and the do it yourself deer hunter  together within regions well known throughout the United States for trophy whitetail deer success. This includes all the variables of any archery deer hunting experience and we price our costs for the average hunter.

The same hunters will return for years of hunts in the same areas and thereby increase their chances of success through developing their own in-depth knowledge of the animal and its habitat within any one particular locality. As we encourage scouting, the trophy Whitetail Deer for the archery deer hunter maybe more in reach than by most other fair chase options.
